Most laid back type of doctor / kind of doctor with most free time?
What is the type of physician that has the most amount of free time? I think i want to be a doctor, but i don’t know what type, and i still want to have free time for family and such – so that means i don’t want to be a surgeon that gets called to the hospital for like 16 hours a day or whatever.
For free time, I’d say family medicine or dermatology. Dermatology is very competitive to get into though. Family doctors have the most balanced lives of physicians, hands down. You’re your own boss and you can choose when you work.
What year of school are you in though? While its good to have some idea of what speciality you want to do, keep in mind that you might end up changing your mind after electives in med school (I know a few people who have after 3rd and 4th year med). Focus on getting into med school first if you aren’t already. Once you’re in, there are lots of different possible careers for different personalities and lifestyles. Good luck!
